Rehabilitation of a historic building with LSF

Beelt has been awarded the structural phase of the rehabilitation of the Fernandes Tomás building, a property of high heritage value located in the heart of Lisbon. The architectural project was designed by the studio MA.TERIA. Architecture Solutions, with whom Beelt is collaborating on this urban rehabilitation project.

With extensive experience in urban rehabilitation and the technical precision that defines our work, Beelt is responsible for executing the new structure and roof of the building, ensuring the continuity of the construction process.

The works include the complete demolition of floors, interior walls, and the roof, as well as the structural reinforcement of the peripheral walls from the inside through the application of steel mesh and micro-concrete projection. The new interior structure will be built using the Light Steel Framing (LSF) system with marine-grade plywood — a lightweight construction system that allows for high precision and faster execution, ideal for urban settings with restricted access.

A new supporting structure for an elevator will also be built, made of hot-rolled steel and supported on reinforced concrete footings. Given the building’s sensitive location, the excavation of the foundation pits will require archaeological supervision.

The structural rehabilitation of the Fernandes Tomás building is yet another example of Beelt’s commitment to technical excellence, heritage preservation, and the implementation of sustainable construction solutions.
